Surprise! John Edwards Admits To That Thing You Already Knew
To the shock of absolutely nobody, John Edwards has admitted to fathering a baby with a woman with whom he was having an affair. And oh yeah, the wife he cheated on was fighting an incurable form of cancer at the time.
Edwards, who reluctantly ended his second White House bid in 2008 after news of an affair with Rielle Hunter became public, admitted that he was the father of Hunter's child, Frances Quinn Hunter.
The admission comes on the heels of a book by former Edwards campaign aide Andrew Young, who originally attempted to claim paternity of the child when the story broke.
Elizabeth Edwards, the cancer-stricken wife of John, said she was "relieved" that the issue could finally be made public, according to an Associated Press report.
Now that Edwards's presidential ambitions are shot, he's been on a losing ticket as vice president, he has been rejected for a second vice presidential slot, he has been laughed at for suggesting he should be Barack Obama's attorney general, federal investigators are looking into misuse of campaign funds, and no politician will want to come within 100 yards of him, one wonders what the future holds for Edwards.
The future is looking much brighter for one entity — The National Enquirer. According to The Washington Post, the executive editor at the Enquirer plans to submit his tabloid's coverage of the Edwards affair for the Pulitzer Prize.
