Terror Fears Rise with Strange Incidents
Three strange incidents on separate airliners within the last 24 hour period have many travelers on high alert. Increased threats from terrorist organizations following the death of Osama bin Laden have added to the apprehensions felt by Airlines and other commercial and public mass transit outfits.
Sunday night an American Airlines flight to San Francisco was disrupted when a 28 year old man, reportedly speaking unintelligibly, rushed the cockpit, yelling and pounding on the door until he was tackled and subdued by a male crew member and two passengers. The agitated passenger, Rageit Almurisi, carried a passport from Yemen, a country on the Arabian Peninsula known for its support and financing of anti-Western Islamic terrorists.
Earlier that same day a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Chicago became chaotic when a 34 year old male passenger stood up, mid-flight, and ran to the main boarding door of the jet. He apparently tried to open the door while screaming that he had to get off the plane. He was intercepted by several men. One of the heroic passengers, Tony Harris, a U.S. 60 year old Army veteran, was able to take the man to the floor and handcuff him. It is reported that the man cracked under the difficulties of a "rough Mother's Day."
The latest incident, an apparent hoax, caused a Delta Airlines flight headed for San Diego, to be diverted to Albuquerque. A written "bomb threat" found by a passenger in the restroom of the plane and delivered by a crew member to the pilot. The crew suspected that the note was a hoax but the pilot nevertheless took immediate precautions and landed the airliner in Albuquerque, NM. After 2 and a half hours the flight was cleared to proceed to San Diego, with no leads to who placed the note.
