In Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, thoughtcrime is labeled as any illegal type of thought.  The rationale was that by controlling what people are allowed to think, you can control crime.

Dakota Ary, a 14-year-old student at Western Hills High School in Forth Worth, Texas, was recently suspended for telling a friend he thinks homosexuality is wrong.  He was originally sentenced to one day of in-school suspension, and two days of full suspension, but his sentence was reduced so he could play in a football game.

The incident occurred in German class, and the teacher was known to frequently bring homosexuality into class discussion.  When he overheard Dakota’s comment, he allegedly went off the deep-end, started yelling and demanded the suspension.

I am normally indifferent to homosexuality.  Attractive lesbians will always be welcomed in my home, and I could care less what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own rectums.  I support gay marriage, but I also support your right to be opposed to it.

In a recent study, heavy-handed “tolerance” campaigns were actually found to cause people to have more racist and offensive thoughts.  As an American, I’m not in the least bit surprised by this. Most of us are descended from people who didn’t like being told what to do.  That’s why they came here in the first place.  Not putting up with this type of crap is literally in our DNA.

This kid didn’t advocate violence against anyone, no one was hurt, and he expressed an opinion.  I’m no Constitutional scholar, but I’m fairly sure he didn't do anything wrong.
