The divided America that I have been blogging and ranting about on Facebook and in my blogs over the past few years and recently in my writing for Technorati, all amount to the same thing. We have one large frustrated group of people in America, but that large group is divided into two distinctly opposing reasons for their discontent. One group appears to be discontented with with big government and the other seems more discontented with big corporations.

The place where they could come together were it not too late, would be in the discontent over bigness being the obstacle to overcome. Big business buy off big government seats in congress and suddenly who is who become blurred. I was listening to am man go on and on about how un-American it is to protest, how selfish and greedy these protesters are. They are a bunch of young communist who want the state to give them everything for nothing. The same man envisions the Tea Party as people who are serious about retaking the country for the hard working Americans who do not want to be taxed to death.

The coming together of the Tea Party and the Occupy Wall St. movement is not a likely event. The one reason that stands out has nothing to do with what they are for or for what principles they want to fight. The major reason that the groups could never come together is that they each have identified the other as the enemy. And in this climate where everything we do from the practice of medicine to the practice of politics is linguistically couched in warrior terms. People are fighting for, the require weapons of mass destruction, the elections are won or lost like the unending wars that we have committed ourselves to in the middle east, Pakistan, Libya, Afghanistan and the cold wars we are engaging in with China and Russia…these warring terminologies have infected every aspect of our lives. The sustainability movement at war with Monsanto…Monsanto, egregiously ruining crops by hormone injection for the sake of a larger short tern turn around in profit.

The profit motive has permeated all ways of life except for those barely making it off the grid.
