The Controversial KKK Looks to Adopt a Highway
A few weeks ago, the Ku Klux Klan submitted a request to adopt a highway. Naturally, the Georgia Department of Transportation rejected their proposal. They simply want to adopt a stretch of highway in the North Georgia mountains. They have recently requested the assistance of the American Civil Liberties Union. This is what the Exalted Cyclops of the Klan's Realm said in an interview:
“We just want to clean up the doggone road. We’re not going to be out there in robes.”
To me, that says it all. Please, tell me how is a big deal?
The answer to me is simple: they should be allowed to adopt a highway. Really, why not? Sure, they are the most notorious hate group in the United States besides the Westboro Baptist Church. Besides, the Ku Klux Klan was allowed to adopt a highway in Missouri. While burning crosses are what usually come to mind, among acts of domestic terrorism, here's what we need to remember:hate groups that are this large are not"one size fits all".
Not every member of the Ku Klux Klan hates black people, gays, etc. Sure, there are a lot who do heinous acts of domestic terrorism which I do havea big problem with. They have taunted biracial couples, killed people, and committed other atrocities. Call me young and naive, but, maybe they are becoming gentler. No one is perfect and, while I honestly believe that the Ku Klux Klan is misguided, people are capable of change. There is nothing wrong with having pride in your race(s). You should be proud of who you were born to be.
Some of us are unique butterflies who are biracial, bisexual, etc. Others, are the stereotypical White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. To me, this shouldn't be an issue.
