'Top Kill' Fails To Kill Spill, Scaring Everybody
The "top kill" has failed. Even a BP executive commented, “This scares everybody,” the first true admission by a leader of the oil giant.
Tamara Lush of AP wrote , “On almost every issue — the amount of gushing oil, the environmental impact, even how to stop the leak — BP's statements have proven wrong. The erosion of the company's credibility may prove as difficult to stop as the oil spewing from the sea floor.”
Even pro-business Florida Sen. Bill Nelson, a Democrat said, "They keep making one mistake after another. That gives the impression that they're hiding things. These guys either do not have any sense of accountability to the public or they are Neanderthals when it comes to public relations."
Senator, why did you not tell this to President Obama personally? He still thinks being photographed on the shore of Gulf is sufficient for the damage control. I am starting to think that this is Obama’s Katrina.
On May 3, I wrote, “By the time the damaged wells are capped and repaired, this tragedy might dwarf Exxon Valdez. Meanwhile, the politics of the disaster had already begun. Spin master Rush Limbaugh has called the Gulf oil spill, “Obama's Katrina.”
I apologize to Rush, he was right on this, I was wrong.
I do not fault BP’s public relations. What do you expect? Should they go around telling everyone that this catastrophe is going to have the most severe environmental damage in the history of this country?
No, that was the function of the Obama administration. How could they let BP get away first with their estimate of 1,000 barrels a day, and then 5,000 barrels, when the government’s own estimates showed it to be many times greater?
From the words of BP’s chief operating officer, Doug Suttles, it appears that BP is finally admitting that if their effort to cut off the leaking riser at the top of the blowout preventer fails to stop the oil gush, they do not have any other idea that could do it before months.
Of course, “this scares everybody.”
Does the administration have any idea?
