Why Berlusconi is Not the Right Person to Lead Italy
Some days ago I said how Berlusconi will win again in Italy. While someone else wants to explain Berlusconi to our sons, I think it's time to understand if he's the right person to lead - again - Italy.
Let's start from a foreign point of view. Recently, Tony Blair said two things about Italian Prime Minister. The former is that Berlusconi was a good friend of his country keeping his word. The latter that Berlusconi during meeting is never boring.
In other words, he is a funny guy. Is that enough to lead Italy? Mr.Blair didn't clarify if Berlusconi is the right person to lead Italy in the future. I'll try to be more analytic than him. Forgetting my political opinion.
Italy has two big issues:
- the organized crime: in 2009 Bloomberg reported that Italian mob revenue surges to $167 Billion from 2007. About 7% of the country's gross domestic product;
- the tax evasion: evasion of direct taxes is $160 Billion, Europe highest.
The biggest problem is that Italians didn't and won't vote for someone that promise to approach and solve those issues. Because, resolving those problems means to do sacrifice and it will take time to resolve them.
Berlusconi wins in Italy, because he says to Italians what Italians want to hear. And Italians don't want to hear: you must do sacrifice.
Italy needs someone else to lead our country for next years. Someone that wants to improve our civic sense, because paying taxes is a civic due and we must living according the law. We need someone that makes us understand the importance of the civic sense.
This is why Berlusconi is not the right person to lead - again – Italy. We shouldn't care if he is a funny guy or if it's a person that keeps his word with foreign country.
