Why Veterans Love Ron Paul
This Veterans Day weekend, Ron Paul supporters are launching another moneybomb. This one is focusing on his support for military veterans, and their support for him.
In an analysis of all donations to all candidates from military veterans, Dr. Paul has received a full 50%. By comparison, Obama has received 28% and all of the other GOP candidates combined have only received 22%.
Veterans, who have offered to give their lives for the cause of liberty, are dedicated - to say the least. Those who have experienced military service firsthand know what needs to be done. The troops need to be brought home.
The authors of the US Constitution never intended that Washington be the policeman of the world. Thomas Jefferson was very concerned about the dangers of forming entangling alliances. By picking favorites, the US makes enemies of those that are not chosen as special friends. A US military presence in other countries causes dependencies in those countries, and causes resentment when the citizens of those countries do not want a US military presence there.
As the US Constitution is written, the purpose of the army is the defense of the homeland against invasion and insurrection - in the event that the militia is unable to defend the states against attack. The navy was established to protect US shores - not invade other countries and build other nations. In order to prevent the president from invading country after country (Which is exactly what the current administration is illegally doing), only the Congress is given the authority to declare war.
Eisenhower gave a stern warning about the marriage of business and the military - which he termed the "military-industrial complex." Cronyism (the marriage of business and politics) is often confused with capitalism - thanks to the public monastery system (education subsidized directly or through tax-funded loans). A full one-fifth of my book is devoted to the mysteries of war and elements of security.
It's time to bring the soldiers home from all over the world, and give them the welcome that they deserve. Dr. Paul has promised to do just that as president as soon as the ships can get there. They are all too often forgotten and abandoned. This MoneyBomb is in honor of them.
