Schmeler retires from Albany International board

Frank Schmeler, who has served as chairman of Albany International Corp. since 2001 and was CEO from 2000 to 2005, announced his retirement today at the company’s annual shareholder meeting. Although Schmeler’s retirement plans were not widely known, a discerning investor may have guessed his plans since he was not up for re-election to the company’s board of directors. He is 69. Based in Menands, Albany International makes equipment and materials used in everything from paper mills to airplanes and comforters. Erland Kailbourne, a director since 1999, was elected chairman.
