Apparently, May 1st is RSS Awareness Day! I had no idea such a day existed, but it has it's own site at RSSday.org. Thanks to the nice folks at dailyblogtips.com for making our RSS in Plain English video part of the site - and day for that matter. I agree that RSS is one of those special technologies. It has the potential to positively impact virtually every Internet user at no cost. A big problem is awareness - it's hard for people to see how it could impact them until they give it a try. Hopefully we've been able to turn some people on - but there are still about 94% of Internet users that haven't seen the light.

Também não dá pra competir com o feriadão do 1º de maio, né? A iniciativa, da Blog Daily Tips, visa disseminar o uso da really simple sindycation. Estima-se que apenas 5,4% dos usuários de internet no mundo utilizem o recurso – cálculo feito com base no número de assinantes do Feedburner, atualmente na casa dos 60 milhões (a pesquisa da Avenue A | Razorfish, feita com o público norte-americano, tem números mais otimistas). E você, usa leitores de RSS? Eu não vivo sem. Um dado curioso: 2/3 dos acessos do Arquitetura de Informação provêm de feeds. Abaixo, um vídeo da Common Craft Store sobre o assunto:

Share RSS Awareness Day

The new Maxis commercial you see on the television; animated drawn on paper type objects, concept was from Common Craft. I wanted to say this out loud so everyone (hopefully) won’t be misled to believe it is an original concept. So back to RSS Awareness day…it actually falls on May 1, coincidentally is Labors Day. This online started campaign is about informing the many other Internet users about RSS and how they can benefit from using it in their daily web activities. Before I started using an RSS reader, I always bookmarked blogs I read daily. Today, I still do bookmark blogs but I subscribe to my favorite blogs RSS feed for easier tracking of new posts. Not to mention, I get a sneak peek of each post title without having to load the blog. So share the love of RSS readers and let more Malaysia Internet users know about RSS awareness day. And here’s a video by Common Craft. There’s a more polished RSS in plain english version with clearer audio and video quality over on their blog. If you’d like to view other stuff they’ve done, you could view them on their Blip TV channel.

http://terrydolson.net/blog/2008/05/01/go-20/NITLE alerted me to this article on a study showing how effective social networking tools are in getting information out. And this post over at the Common Carft Show tells me that May 1 is now “RSS Day”! (there is an organization promoting it who claims only 94% of internet users use RSS…could that be true??) So I am doing my part.

¿Sin RSS? No me interesa.

Mi agregador me permite estar al día de cientos de sitios distintos sin perder el tiempo de entrar y salir continuamente de ellos. Puedo leer sólo los títulos de los nuevos artículos, puedo leerlos enteros, puedo clasificarlos. Según mi humor, empiezo por la prensa, por los artículos sobre TIC, los de mis alumnos, los de historia, los de griego, los de latín, los de lenguas, los personales, los de humor, los inconfesables, las fotos de los amigos, los enlaces añadidos a los grupos del marcador, los cambios en las wikis ... Son mis ojos en la red. También me sirve de altavoz, ya que gracias al agregador puedo compartir los artículos que quiera, con los alumnos, con los lectores de este blog. ¿Vida antes del RSS? No la recuerdo. Dicen que hoy se celebra su día. Por si alguien todavía no conoce sus ventajas, dejo este vídeo imprescindible.
