  I thoroughly enjoyed the 2008 New Media Marketing Conference, even though I never attended! What the conference attendees did was put into practise exactly what they preach. There are twitter updates, live blogging of each presentation, pics of the speakers, shared slideshows and videos! So instead of trekking up to Joburg and having to pay around R9000 to attend, I’m getting the cheap seats for free! Granted, I am missing out on the networking opportunities, the entire presentations and lunch, but having a summary of the event and all the talks is also pretty cool. (It makes me want to attend next year, so I guess it’s working hey!?) Free Conference Pass Well, I do have 1 free conference pass available. The event details are up on the IQPC website, but not all the speakers are listed, and there isn’t very much information regarding the event on the site. This event is all about new media, so why no portal / social media site like Zoopy have got going?   We got off to a slightly later start this morning, with some crazy Joburg traffic, but thanks to Twitter we were able to stop Vincent from starting his presentation before we arrived. A few minutes later, Vincent was in Keynote heaven and the day moved swiftly on: Vincent Maher - Mail and Guardian Online - Amatomu, Thoughtleader and the M&G new media rollout Mike Stopforth - Cerebra - Insights and learnings about social media Tyler Reed - Younique - Technology, new media and the youth’s point of view Lize Esterhuizen - Stellenbosch University - Creating a connected academic environment Paul Jacobson - Jacobson Attorneys - New media and technology law Patrick Collings - Sagacite Brand Agency - Virtuality and the rise of the avatar Allan Kent - AtPlay - Integrated marketing Leon Orsmond - Osmosis - Viral strategies And that’s a wrap. We’re heading home, really chuffed at two days well spent: some of it on some very engaging, informative presentations, and much of it on getting to know people better. Oh yes, and some of it was also spent covering the event. Glad that it provided some value
