Broker Blogwrap: Dropping the Science on Real Estate

    http://sf.curbed.com/archives/2008/05/16/broker_blogwrap_dro...

Broker BlogWrap is our tribute to the brokersphere. 'Cause we love you that much— we really do. Posts of note may be passed along accordingly. 1) If you're all like "Subprime Mortgage whaaat?" there's an answer. The endearingly bookish straight shooters at the NPR program This American Life put things in perspective in what is most likely a funny, sad, then funny, then sad again, and ultimately inspiring tale. It's all just a giant pool of money, see? [SF Home Blog] 2) The Future of Real Estate...is NOW! Digital For Sale signs and voice-powered search may drastically change the market in the coming years. So when the Post-Apocalypic overlords forcible remove you from your home in the interest of building a giant thunder-dome, you'll have no problem finding a new pad...until the Vampire Zombies attack. [Sellsius] 3) New term to us: "AstroTurfing." Defined as a fake grassroots campaign. Like say, angryrenter.com. Despite the site's claim that "Quite simply, we are just Angry Renters," the masterminds behind the operation are neither renters nor probably that angry (seeing as how they're multi-millionaires and all). The site is the brainchild of former House majority leader Dick Armey and publisher Steven Forbes that's surely designed to somehow advance their diabolical conservative agenda. [Burbed] 4) A well-informed (and financed!) renter shares his opinion about why it's NOT the right time to buy. Baaaasically....as far as we can tell, the moral of the story is to make a low-ball offer. [The Front Steps]

The Future of Real Estate Search: Voice Input Search

    http://condo-user.pamjundy.com/?p=43

Voice input search is coming to online search, and by extension, to real estate search. Remember the Yellow Pages mantra, “Let your fingers do the walking” ? Well, consumers will let their voices do the walking with voice enabled search.  Rather than typing into the Google or Yahoo box, folks searching for a home, or anything else, will just ask what they’re looking for. Google was recently granted a patent for its Google Voice Search. This technology is working its way to you via mobile devices like your cellphone, iPhone and Blackberry.  What’s great is the mobile devices use GPS to give map based results .  So, imagine you can drive a neighborhood, speak a property search and get the results on a map, with links to the home listings.  (Heck, you can then drive by the house, point your iPhone at the bar coded For Sale sign to get more information on the home (and contact info) and then call the agent to see the home.) The following applications accept voice input and return Web results: Microsoft’s TellMe (video demo link) Yahoo’s OneSearch (Press Release April 2008) Sprint’s V-Enable (Press Release April 2008) (Check out the Mobile411 video here.) By adopting this technology, a real estate website will set itself apart from the competition.   Imagine the clout of Realtor.com and the local MLS with this application for consumers? See you in the future. Related Post: Human Search: Do You Cha Cha? Technorati Tags: search, technology, real estate search, marketing, real estate marketing
