PhoneNews: AT&T Releases Details on Prorated ETFs According to a new press release, AT&T Wireless has given details for the early termination fees which were covered by PhoneNews.com back in October of 2007. Come May 25th, customers who enter a service agreement will have $5 deducted each month from the early termination fee of $175. Customers who enter a service agreement before May 25th will not qualify for the proration. AT&T will still be offering a month-to-month option if a phone is bought from them at full price or if the customer brings in their own phone. I tend to prefer devices with larger screens and slide-out keyboards, but that makes dialing numbers a bit of a hassle, and impossible with one hand. Voice Command lets me get around that by just saying "Call Jim Smith on mobile." The problem is, if I say "Call Jim Smith at work" and his work number involves an extension, then unless you have the phone number configured correctly, you'll have to reach down and tap out the extension. What is it? EyePhoto is a Windows Mobile photo viewer that generates a photo album from all photos, pictures and images on your Pocket PC. Watching photos with EyePhoto is very easy - you just slide your finger on the screen to flip through the pages of your photo album. This looks to be a very slick means of looking at and sharing some of those great images you’ve been saving on your device. Check out EyePhoto here and let your fingers do all the walking…. With a pen in my Centro and a replacement stylus that’s not as springy as the original, I feel much better prepared for what the world can dish out. by alex_mathews, 2nd April 2008 - 11:45 AM Everything Treo: Microsoft Confirms Sprint Will be Carrier For New Windows Mobile Treo Microsoft today announced the official release of Windows Mobile 6.1. That in itself is big news, but perhaps bigger news for Treo enthusiasts lies in the official confirmation that Sprint will be the carrier of the new Palm Treo. It's also confirmed that the new Treo will feature Windows Mobile 6.1. The browser alone will offer a significant improvement over it's predecessor, serving up webpages similar to those found on your desktop browser. Update:Sprint has issued a press release that also confirms this news. The press release reads, "In addition, all of Sprint's new Windows Mobile smartphones launching in the second half of 2008 will offer Windows Mobile 6.1 software, including a new Palm Treo launching later this year. Additional details will be announced upon commercial availability." [via Everything Treo] by alex_mathews, 1st April 2008 - 06:06 PM Mobility Site: Windows Mobile 6.1 Announced LAS VEGAS— April 1, 2008 —Windows Mobile is improving smartphones to better meet people’s rapidly expanding work and personal needs, Microsoft Corp. today announced. At CTIA Wireless 2008, the company unveiled the newest version of Internet Explorer Mobile, which adds desktop-grade Web browsing to Windows Mobile phones. In addition, Microsoft announced Windows Mobile 6.1, an update for its Windows Mobile software that includes new time-saving features, easier phone navigation and management, and increased security safeguards. “People want a single phone that’s flexible enough to meet their needs throughout their day, whether it’s connecting to work or your everyday life,” said Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “The innovations we’ve added to our Windows Mobile software ultimately make it easier to manage your world.” “Microsoft is taking the necessary steps to broaden its consumer appeal while also addressing the complex mobile needs of the enterprise,” said Ben Bajarin, analyst with Creative Strategies. “Internet Explorer Mobile and Windows Mobile 6.1 demonstrate Microsoft’s ability to harness its technologies to bring tangible innovations and benefits to customers and partners.” [via Mobility Site] by alex_mathews, 1st April 2008 - 06:05 PM TamsPalm: TeaShark browser could come to Palm OS When comparing current operating systems for mobile devices, the lack of an useful web browser for Palm OS immediately stands out - all other operating systems have an abundance of browsers available. Java ports of WebKit recently began to pop up - unfortunately, one of the most promising ones of them(TeaShark) currently crashes on Palm devices according to user reports. However, the company apparently is aware of the problem and plans to fix it according to this Google Groups discussion [via TamsPalm] by alex_mathews, 1st April 2008 - 05:42 PM Palm-Mac: HTC Home screen for treo 750 Spotted this over at xda-developers....a HTC Home screen that seems to work on the treo 750. I've been using Spb Mobile Shell myself for a while and prefer that but this one is free. I had this on the HTC S730 I used briefly and it was quite nice if not a little memory intensive. Being able to move around inside a panorama and seeing what the photographer saw is exciting for me. Thanks to Kinoma Player 4 EX, I can watch panoramas on my Palm as well. I can even rotate the screen and view them in full-screen to enjoy a very wide field-of-view! I'd like to think my phone was ready all along and it's just that their software was ready for my phone. Anyway, I have the Treo 750 so I decided to give it a try and am already loving it. The new hire is Lynn Fox, formerly the head of Mac PR for Apple. The hire apparently happened earlier this month without much fanfare. [via Palm-Mac] by alex_mathews, 1st April 2008 - 02:12 PM Phone Scoop: A Visual Guide to 700 MHz The U.S. government recently auctioned off a large, important band of radio spectrum aptly named the "700 MHz band". The name may be simple, but digging into the details of this band, things get complicated quickly, so we've created this handy guide to explain all the nitty-gritty details. The auctions for the 700 MHz band were conducted by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission,) the arm of the government responsible for (among other things) regulating radio spectrum and the industries that use it. Since the beginning of the decade, the FCC has been working hard to rid the airwaves of inefficient analog television broadcasts, and replace them with a variety of more efficient digital services. This includes digital television, of course, but digital television - even in high-definition - is efficient enough that the move to digital will free a significant amount of radio spectrum for things other than television, such as new cell phone service. Windows Mobile Face Contact Plugin Adds CoverFlow Contacts [Software]

Windows Mobile Face Contact Plugin Adds CoverFlow Contacts [Software] Posted by: admin in General Gadgets News CoverFlow might be only semi-useful on your Mac, but imagine what it would look like on a Windows Mobile phone. Actually useful! The Face Contact plugin, which costs $14.95, displays all your contact pics in a CoverFlow-esque way in your home screen, letting you flip between people and even directly dial, text or send emails from their pic. Cool for sure, but is it worth $15? Probably not. Plus, are all your contacts actually good looking enough that you’d want to stare at them every time you pull out your phone?
