Organic Blasphemy
http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/ archives/ 008668.html
Just noticed this fine piece of blasphemy debunking organic food myths via the corner:They're not healthier or better for the environment â and they're packed with pesticides. In an age of climate change and shortages, these foods are an indugence the world can't afford, argues environmental expert Rob JohnstonI disagree, actually. They're faddish hypocritical nonsense that we can easily afford. If farmers want to supply hippies with their organic nonsense so that hippies can feel better about themselves I'm fine with that.

Cheap lawn furniture is one thing
http://hallsofmacadamia.blogspot.com/2008/05/cheap-lawn-furn...If it's gonna go in my mouth... that's another thing entirely...If financially pinched Americans opt for the cheapest (and the least healthful) foods rather than cook their own, the food industry will continue to reach for the lowest common denominator. To encourage small, diversified farms is not to make a nostalgic bid to revert to the agrarian ways of our ancestors. It is to look toward the future, leapfrogging past the age of heavy machinery and pollution, to farms that take advantage of the sun’s free energy and use the waste of one species as food for another. Leave our agricultural future to chefs and anyone who takes food and cooking seriously. We never bought into the “bigger is better” mantra, not because it left us too dependent on oil, but because it never produced anything really good to eat. The future belongs to the gourmet.********** RELATED: Of course, not everyone agrees ********** LAST WORD: The cost of cheap foodIn the biggest workplace immigration raid this year, federal agents swept into a kosher meat plant on Monday in Postville, Iowa, and arrested more than 300 workers. The authorities said the workers were suspected of being in the United States illegally or of having participated in identity theft and the fraudulent use of Social Security numbers.Of course... there's also the migrant workers that pick the crops... but that's a post of its own. *

BUSTED: Organic food.
http://sleepyoldbear.wordpress.com/2008/05/11/busted-organic...I love this. The irony is so pungent it’s hard to add anything. This is where self-righteousness can lead. For example: Myth three: Organic farming doesn’t use pesticides Food scares are always good news for the organic food industry. The Soil Association and other organic farming trade groups say conventional food must be unhealthy because farmers use pesticides. Actually, organic farmers also use pesticides. The difference is that “organic” pesticides are so dangerous that they have been “grandfathered” with current regulations and do not have to pass stringent modern safety tests. For example, organic farmers can treat fungal diseases with copper solutions. Unlike modern, biodegradable, pesticides copper stays toxic in the soil for ever. The organic insecticide rotenone (in derris) is highly neurotoxic to humans – exposure can cause Parkinson’s disease. But none of these “natural” chemicals is a reason not to buy organic food; nor are the man-made chemicals used in conventional farming. The rest is here. Thanks to SDA.
