Farewell sweet 3 dongle
http://open.typepad.com/ open/ 2008/ 07/ farewell-sweet.html
It's time for my 3 broadband dongle I've been trying courtesy of the blogger testing programme to go back. I gave it a pretty rigorous road test a while back and while my opinion's not changed since then (Voda better for train use, 3 has the edge on price / contract stuff) there's a couple of things I'd like to add on the subject of les dongles, more generally. From a hardware point of view there's just one final hurdle - can you just make it plug and play? I mean do I have to activate the application, Ok the connection, enter my password and *then* click connect on the phone icon in my toolbar (this on a Mac).

One dongle to rule them all?
http://www.3mobilebuzz.com/2008/07/24/one-dongle-to-rule-the...Over at Open (finds, minds, conversations) Antony has been saying adieu to his 3 mobile broadband dongle. This has placed him in a reflective mood, and his overriding thought on the experience is: “no one should be without a dongle in this day and age - especially in the UK.” This is something his dongle-sharing amigo will undoubtedly testify to. In a moment reminiscent of Gandalf’s attempts to prise the ring from an oversized hairy-foot named Bilbo Baggins, Antony thanked his pal for returning the dongle and went to step from the train they were riding. Only a second before his departure did he realise that his pal still had it! ‘Tis a powerful thing that dongle. As Antony suggests, “I swear my soon-to-be-3G-cold-turkey colleague was a beat away from calling it his ‘precious’…” That Antony’s dongle is the object at the centre of all tyranny, is, I’m fairly certain a fallacy. What is for sure though, is with WiFi being sporadically available and often expensive, 3’s dongle is more convenient than if Mount Doom had been at the bottom of Frodo’s garden.

It seems that Apple is taking further care in hiding new iPhone features in their beta releases. The most recent firmware beta seeded to developers listed "compatibility testing" in its release notes as the only change.
