Listen: LoDeck, “No Rims”

LoDeck rises from the soil once again. LoDeck’s debut EP Bash It came out when I was still in high school, but I recall loving his grimy, paranoid style. His bugged-out voice made “Stethoscope” on the Atoms Family compilation Euphony an instant stand-out. Like many super-underground heads in the early 2000s, I abandoned the little men of the rap business once Jay-Z decided to become King of New York, once Kanye West started speaking to college dropouts and The Clipse re-introduced everyone to coca. Seven years later, LoDeck is still making the same grimy New York rap.
