Success Secrets: DARPA and Success
http://successbooks.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ darpa-and-success.html
I have been downloading a couple dozen PDFs from Darpatech, a symposium where DARPA (the government’s futuristic science arm) meets with and presents ideas to outside scientists and companies. These PDFs are actual speeches given at Darpatech that both explain what DARPA’s current objectives are, and are also clearly intended to inspire and excite scientists and engineers to join in the work they are conducting. The DARPA programs of the past and present are awe-inspiring. DARPA has literally re-invented our world since is inception in 1958.

I am good at hacky sack. I am at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa this week. I became infatuated with the place last fall when I started work on their admissions viewbook, but with this visit the relationship has turned into a full blown affair (Robin is asking, "Do I have to move back to Iowa?). There is a Brigadoon quality to this corner of northeast Iowa, a self-aware earnestness among people who live here about the special qu $150,000,000 for BlackBerry Applications Posted: 11 May 2008 08:19 PM CDT Venturebeat reported about the setup of a $150 million fund to boost BlackBerry application development. Unfortunately, the post has been taken down and we do not know why. It is obvious that RIM has to respond on the iFund plans for iPhone applications. Following the example of many similar programs RIM's appearance in the market as well as the functionality of the BlackBerry will increase dramatically. So, he gave it to me in the evening just before our obligatory game of Settlers of Cattan. Do you remember when I said my fantasy future would include these things: a farm, an art studio for building battle bots and doing art, a villa in France or Tuscany, a bestselling published book, a Westphalia? Well he fulfilled one of these fantasies in a way. Why is that? Simply put, my laptop, after a struggle, has decided to give up the ghost. Naturally I tried just about everything I could think of before surrendering to this fact, such as a system restore, talking to a specialist a Reports of the 3G iPhone’s imminent release may be slightly exaggerated Posted: 11 May 2008 06:45 PM CDT The hype and speculation around the 3G iPhone are mounting quickly. Yesterday, it was uncovered that an "Enable 3G" button was part of the latest beta firmware update for the device. While Apple has yet to officially comment on the rumored-to-be-impending release, this is certainly one of the clearest signs that it is definitely coming soon. But how soon? Rumors are flying around the Internet that Apple will launch the device earlier than expected — with some now even pointing to this month. T Driving Hack - How to tell Where the Speedtraps are and download them to your GPS! Posted: 11 May 2008 05:39 PM CDT Wow, now you can use njection.com to find out where the speed camera traps are. Since I live in San Francisco and there are so many speed traps everywhere, I did a search for my zip code and that's what you see in the above screenshot. Pretty accurate too as I can verify some of the speed traps from back of my head. You can also download this information to your GPS device, how cool is that? Hopefully less tickets for you and you come back to Zedomax for more… :p Shannon Atkinson launched Success Secrets: DARPA and Success Posted: 11 May 2008 05:30 PM CDT I have been downloading a couple dozen PDFs from Darpatech, a symposium where DARPA (the government's futuristic science arm) meets with and presents ideas to outside scientists and companies. Personally I am thinking this one has to be false, having an iPhone competitor named the iPerformer sounds like they are just asking for trouble. The ballet season ended a few days earlier and the summer opera season won't begin until the end of the month, so our curiosity was piqued. It turned out to be a lavish company party for the 25th anniversary of the San Francisco advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners (click here), and there was signage in the opera mezzanine featuring a greatest hits Nokia N96 Review - Multimedia Mobile Monster Posted: 11 May 2008 04:47 PM CDT No Nokia N96 review worth its salt would be complete without referring to its spiritual daddy, the hugely popular Nokia N95. The Nokia N96 offers similar features and a similar form factor to the N95, but with a much more mature platform (in other words, unlike the N95, it actually works without crashing!). However, it's not, apparently, designed as the N95's successor (largely because the N95 is still on sale!) Rather, it's a video and mobile TV phone that just happens to include much of the Thanks to ProgrammableWeb Sponsors Posted: 11 May 2008 03:42 PM CDT We couldn't keep making ProgrammableWeb the resource it is without the help of our sponsors and partners. You stand around where you think it is with your handy GPS and the gadget tells you where to go and when you've arrived. Back when the equator was first mapped, it was the 1700s, and no one thought to bring along their GPS. The story of the equator (well, equators, but we'll get to that in a minute) in Ecuador starts in the 1700s when the first geodesic expedition took place, the French Geodesic Mission, whose goal was to My Mississippi Manifest Destiny (and the March to the Beach) Posted: 11 May 2008 03:02 PM CDT Daddy's gone south on the Natchez Trace If he can't show the money Then he don't show his face Mark Knopfler, Daddy's Gone to Knoxville, 2002. The formula is: Relative Bearing + Magnetic Heading = Magnetic Bearing to the station. Let's forget for a moment that no one actually uses this formula in the air while performing Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) navigation. We're talking about a sacred aviation tradition here! I have 4 Slingboxes, 4 Macs, 3 PCs, Gigabit ethernet, DVRs, media players, and more gadgets in my car than most people do in their homes. With cell phones, GPS, amateur radio and EVDO data, I have completely run out of power outlets in my car and that is after adding 3 additional outlets! What's worse, I watch TV while driving. OK, fess up - how many of you also do that? Be honest.
