Reactions to story from Neil Gaiman - Neil Gaiman's Journal
not really about anything...
http://journal.neilgaiman.com/ 2008/ 05/ not-really-about-anything.html
Let's see -- spoke at Maddy's school yesterday, to about a hundred 13 and 14 year olds. Survived. The pear tree and the cherry trees are coming into blossom too. Tomorrow, without the glorious leadership of Bee Boss Sharon Stiteler, I get to inspect the Kitty hive and go and see how the queen is doing... I'm currently spending most of the time in the gazebo at the bottom of the garden, alternately writing a sort of outline for something and proofreading The Graveyard Book.

Hamlet and Watchmen
http://mxh178.blogspot.com/2008/07/hamlet-and-watchmen.htmlFirst, here is a picture of David Tennant rehearsing for his role as Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I can't decide if it's really him, but the dude in the background looks like Patrick Stewart. It looks even more like him in this picture. On a related note, rumors are flying around that Neil Gaiman is going to write an episode of Doctor Who. On his blog he wrote a humorous line referencing Tennant's role as Hamlet. "To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?" On an unrelated but even more awesome note, the trailer for the Watchmen movie is officially out, and is playing in front of The Dark Knight. It looks really good.

Bring more tuna
http://matcochr.blogspot.com/2008/06/bring-more-tuna.htmlBring more tuna This blog is a bit all over the place because I'm busy just now. Roughly speaking, it's one paragraph per topic. Re Steven Moffat taking over Doctor Who show-running... Paul Cornell suggests that it may be time to revisit "Lesbian Spank Inferno". Aleks suggests that the Melty Man or Captain Subtext might be more appropriate, but some of the male fans may disagree with her. During the year off after this series David Tennant is doing Hamlet. Neil Gaiman (who may or may not be writing an episode) suggests a re-write to suit the Doctor: "To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?" There is a creature in The Adolescence of Time called a Mulo, you can see one on the cover (it' the one being sat on). The sound made by their wings get a track to themselves in Pro Tools which I have named "Mulo Flaps." I think I now have a new profanity to use this month. "Oh... Mulo-flaps!" I can see that being quite satisfying. And finish on the song... Posted by Matthew Cochrane

Rumor about Neil Gaiman writing Doctor Who only rumor - would be kinda cool, though, wouldn't it? ^^
http://www.brielmusik.de/?q=node/677To quote my second favourite author in the world from his blog: http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2008/05/perilous-roads.html "Look, if it ever gets to the point where I know that I'm actually, definitely, for certain, writing an episode of Doctor Who, I'll post it here. In big red letters. Or green. You'll know when it happens, trust me. I may even get Maddy to write the entry for me, and include photographs of cats doing amusing things in it. It'll be a proper blog post. Promise." Seems that the rumor about some kind of finished deal came up after Neil met Steven Moffat from the current Doctor Who team. Add to that the fact that he likes the Doctor a lot and mentions that from time to time in his blog. There's even a Doctor Who joke in the Rifftrax (www.rifftrax.com - more on them another time) to Beowulf. :) I mean: People who know Neil and his blog know that he likes the Timelord (as do I btw - more on THAT later as well!). And he posted a little tidbit of Doctor Who monologue he wrote starting with Shakespeare's "To be or not to be..." - and it fits David Tennant's Doctor just PERFECTLY: http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2008/05/not-really-about-anything.html "To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?" Judging from this little bit and his books which I like a lot - I'd *love* to one day read something like "The evil, deadly planet of doom of the Daleks - WRITTEN BY NEIL GAIMAN" above the BBC-logo... :)

Much ado about nothing
http://wiredwytch.vox.com/library/post/much-ado-about-nothin...1) Two weeks ago I went to see The Fall (and here in English) - it's a wonderful movie, I really recommend it. 2) I would be quite shocked if I found out I had been using this for for target practice with my air gun. (If I had an airgun, but that's another story) 3) I thoroughly enjoyed Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. 4) Reaper is highly underrated... Sean and I watched the first season and it is a great show. Too bad it's only on Comedy Central, they tend to mix up the episodes... Now we have to wait until december or something when the second season will air :) 5) I loved the Dr Who Agatha Christie episode. Maybe not the best plot ever, but highly entertaining. Sometimes the references to book titles were a bit forced ("Damn it woman! Cards on the table!" Almost directly following another title... Well maybe I'm just jealous the wonderful contest is for UK residents only... I do want to have those facsimiles editions!) , but in general it was good fun. Staying with Dr Who for a while, from Neil Gaiman's blog: I know that David Tennant's Hamlet isn't till July. And lots of people are going to be doing Dr Who in Hamlet jokes, so this is just me getting it out of the way early, to avoid the rush... "To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?" There. Thanks. Sorry about that. In other news: it's almost saturday, and then we will finally be able to visit our new appartment for the very first time! I will be taking my father with a lot of DIY tools. He has to make sure the walls and floors are level and everything... I am so excited!

Gaiman Causes "Nerdgasms"
http://downthetubescomics.blogspot.com/2008/05/gaiman-causes...Well known celebrity gossip newsletter PopBitch has turned its attention to comics and book author Neil Gaiman this week. The newsletter, whose stories are often picked up by the tabloids and celebrity magazines like Heat reports that “Comic fans are having a collective nerdgasm about fantasy superstar Neil Gaiman writing Doctor Who for 2010." It also adds the tidbit that Neil once resigned from Britain's Today newspaper when asked to write a story on Dungeons & Dragons converting British children to Satanism. Neil, whose TV SF credites include an episode of the brilliant Babylon 5, recently noted that David Tennant will be appearing in Hamlet in July and lots of people are going to be doing Doctor Who in Hamlet jokes, so he decided to get it out of the way early, to avoid the rush... Hope he doesn't mind the re-posting here: "To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?" (David Tennant will be playing Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company and tickets are on sale now. You can book online at www.rsc.org.uk or call the box office on 0844 800 1110).

Neverwho
http://www.flashboy.org/blog/?p=298Possibly of interest to people who care about such things: this blog post, in which Neil Gaiman is asked if he’ll be writing for Doctor Who under Steven Moffat’s glorious new showrunnerdom, and he really rather pointedly fails to say “no”, and instead talks about how nice the menu is at a Chinese restaurant in Soho. ‘Lo Neil, As a great fan of Doctor Who, I’ve been dancing around the room after hearing that Steven Moffat is taking over as Chief Writer and Executive Producer of the series in 2009. […] Anyway- my real question is whether or not we’ll finally see a Neil Gaiman DW episode? We’re all quietly hoping the idea came up during your dinner back in March in Bar Shu… I know you’re a very busy person, but it would be the perfect combination for so many fans! Rachel I think it’s great news — what Russell Davies did over the last few years was remarkable: as a writer and as a show-runner he brought Doctor Who back, sure-footed and smart and with a heart. […] I’m really excited about Steven Moffat taking over — always assuming that it’s not just a publicity stunt on his part to try and get “Blink” a Hugo, as a countermeasure to Mr Cornell’s car-crash-to-get-the-sympathy-vote. And it was a terrific dinner: they do fantastic dry-fried green beans at Bar Shu (it doesn’t sound like it would be fantastic from the menu, but it is). Yeah, I know, it’s not much, but such fragile insinuations and half-percieved hints are what fandom thrives upon, no? And you must admit, it would be rather wonderful. I mean, he’s already getting his hand in at writing in the Doctor’s dialogue style: I know that David Tennant’s Hamlet isn’t till July. And lots of people are going to be doing Dr Who in Hamlet jokes, so this is just me getting it out of the way early, to avoid the rush… “To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll…. More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there…” Now, if they could just ply Warren Ellis with enough Red Bull and cigarettes that he agrees to do their bidding as well… UPDATE: The first hints of a rumour have now been upgraded to a full category five rumour swirling just off the coast of certainty land, as somebody who actually knows about such things says that sources within the BBC confirm the existence of the rumour, and more importantly he actually asks Neil Gaiman, who trumps his previous non-denial by going all Urquhart and saying “You may very well think that, but I could not possibly comment.”

The doctor is in
http://audent.wordpress.com/2008/05/24/the-doctor-is-in/Just as the actor playing The Doctor changes periodically, so too do the staff behind the scenes. Rarely, though, has anyone behind the scenes had as much of an impact on Doctor Who as Russell T Davies who quit as exec producer this week. He’s moving on to other things, as is to be expected, following the most astonishing comeback in TV history. Forget wossname (hah) waking up and finding her dead husband in the shower on Dallas. Forget Magnum waking up after walking off into the clouds. Nobody in their right minds expected a Welsh writer to revive TV’s oldest SF show and make it into a drama for grown-ups as much as a homage to the children’s TV show it once was. That Davies is moving on is sad news, but not a surprise. He had a career before The Doctor and he’ll have one after. The great news is that the man shoulder tapped to take over is Steven Moffat, the writer behind such episodes as Blink and who clearly loves the show as much as Davies and as much as the fans. From the BBC story: “Moffat, … said the whole of his career was ‘a secret plan to get this job’,” which is just lovely. Even Neil Gaiman weighed in with a post on it, although I prefer his ode to David Tennant playing Hamlet as The Doctor. Scroll down a bit.

Doctor Who
http://123oleary.blogspot.com/2008/05/doctor-who.htmlThe new head writer for Doctor Who was announced the other day and I thought I finally had some intelligence to share with my resident Doctor Who fanatic. "Steven Moffat," he said. "He's been a writer for ages. He wrote your favourite episode - The Empty Child. He wrote the Time Crash!" And once again I was forced to admit my ignorance. I loved this quote in the interview with Moffat where he talks about taking over from Russell T. Davies: “My entire career has been a secret plan to get this job,” he said. “I applied before but I got knocked back cos (sic) the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven." Dear Mr. Moffat, There's a seven year old here with an eye on your job. Or maybe David Tennant's. Over at Neil Gaiman's blog, he riffs about Tennant's plans to play Hamlet: I know that David Tennant's Hamlet isn't till July. And lots of people are going to be doing Dr Who in Hamlet jokes, so this is just me getting it out of the way early, to avoid the rush... "To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?" It's thanks to reading Gaiman that we realised that Douglas Adams had written for Doctor Who. We're currently working our way back through old episodes and the Tom Baker ones are some of my favourites. A great line the other night: "First things first, but not necessarily in that order."

Shhhhhh. Be Vewy Quiet...
http://caffeinatedlibrarian.blogspot.com/2008/05/shhhhhh-be-......I'm hunting Wabbits. Or at the very least links. Okay, no quotes tonight - in part because I just got back from meeting a former co-worker for a beer & bitch session (actually it was more beer and less bitch since we mostly talked about books and movies). And since he's now aware of the blog (Say "hi!" everyone!), I have to be on my best behavior... And I'm going to start by talking about an

One of my favorite authors
http://www.shawnaatteberry.com/2008/05/20/one-of-my-favorite...This is one of the many reasons why Neil Gaiman absolutely rocks! I know that David Tennant’s Hamlet isn’t till July. And lots of people are going to be doing Dr Who in Hamlet jokes, so this is just me getting it out of the way early, to avoid the rush… “To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll…. More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you’re looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and… for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?” I can hear David Tennant as The Doctor saying this in my head at this moment! And David is going to be Hamlet? Okay, that I am going to have to see. Anyone think he’ll be as broody as Kenneth Branagh was? If you’ve never read Neil, I suggest you make a trip to the library. He’s a wonderful sci-fi, urban fantasy, modern fairy tale, with a little horror thown in for good measure writer. The man knows how to tell a good story, and you can see from above he knows his way around words. My favorite book is Neverwhere: A Novel and my second favorite is Stardust. I cannot wait until The Graveyard Book comes out. His blog is a very good thing for all writers. Writing is always hard work even for those who are published multiple times and famous. They still have to put their butts in a chair and do the work, whether they feel like it or not, or feel inspired or not. Now I need to hit the button on my Doctor Who Tardis 4 Port USB Hub, so the light will flash, and it makes the Tardis sound. My Wonderful Geek of a Husband got it for me as part of my anniversary gift. *que Dr. Who theme* The image is from ThinkGeek.com.
