Get a SIP URI for your Skype account

    http://www.lucafiligheddu.com/2008/01/get-a-sip-uri-for-your...

Phil Wolff at Skype Journal just posted an interesting tip to get a SIP URI for your Skype number. David Beckemeyer commented as well. Full step by step can be found here. Not really something for the average user, but can be really useful. Check it out. I don’t use Skype unfortunately, but I’ll definitely try it out. What about the contrary? david beckemeyer, phil wolff, sip uri If you liked this article, please buy me a coffee! Share This

A SIP address for your Skype

A SIP address for your Skype Skypejournal mentions a hack to create a SIP address that will ring to your Skype name using the Net2Max.com service. It's a rather tedious process, but there is a nice step-by-step write-up to get things set up. I tried it and it does work. As the guide suggests, it might take some time for the stuff at Net2Max.com to get provisioned, but I went through all the steps (well done by the way), and at first it didn't work, but I waited a few hours, and then it did work! By placing a call using PhoneGnome to the SIP address sip:MYNUMBER@sip.syd.net2max.com presto! I get an incoming call on my Skype client (from an odd username). I wonder how many concurrent calls this system can handle? One would assume they're using some kind of hack into multiple instances of Skype running on PC's somewhere in their datacanter to bride the calls from SIP to Skype. I'd be very curious to know exactly what they've got there. Does anyone know? Overall though, it is very cool. The steps are somewhat involved, but the above write-up is good, and you only have to set it up once. If you have a way to dial to a SIP address, you can skip the whole discussion of dialing a SIPbroker access number and such. Instead, simply place a SIP call directly to your Skype account at sip:NUMBER@sip.syd.net2max.com from your SIP client or SIP compatible service. So when will Skype officially support SIPin and SIPOut? As Phoneboy notes, they say nobody wants it, but services like this suggest otherwise. Posted 10:39 PM PST by MrBlog

    SIP to Skype Calls

    http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/skype/sip-to-skype-c...

SIP to Skype CallsOk, so Skype, Inc. won't let you dial into your Skype username using a SIP URI. Yeah, Skype claims their proprietary protocol is better than SIP. I've written about one SIP-to-Skype workaround, but still I hear the cries of VoIP fans everywhere clamoring for SIP access to Skype. So what's a SIP-lovin' VoIPster to do? Well, head on over to Scopezoom and check out the step-by-step guide that lets you deliver SIP calls directly to Skype. Essentially you can have a SIP DID number ring your Skype client. The workaround uses Net2Max.com's One Click Contact number (1CC number) to make this possible. 1CC has the ability to dial Skype usernames. For instance, 899099johnsmith will dial the phone of the person with Skype name of johnsmith on the Skype phone network. The network number 099 is the key to tell Net2Max to route over the Skype network. In fact, Net2Max can route to other VoIP networks. Check out the Net2MAX web dialer list here which mentions the Skype prefix 099 as well as 098 for SIP IP Address, 092 - MSN Live Messenger, 091 - Google Talk, 093 - Yahoo Messenger, and more. Scopezoom explains in the last part of the tutorial: If it worked, it means all calls directed to *7749Your1CCNumber@sipbroker.com or Your1CCNumber@sip.syd.net2max.com will ring your Skype. Now all you have to do to assign a SkypeIn number is forward any DID number you have to that URI... (Services like MySipSwitch.com, PBXes.com or VoXalot.com can help you forward to a SIP URI if your current provider does not offer this feature) With your SIP DID you can forward it to a SIP URI. This SIP URI then forwards the call to your Skype username. Then when you can call the SIP DID it will route the call to the Skype username. So what's the point other than SIP to Skype username calling? Well, you can use PontiVoce (which I wrote about here) to control your Skype client to do some cool stuff. Essentially, PontiVoce lets you turn your PC into a Skype gateway, allowing you to dial into your PC running Skype and then initiate an outbound call at SkypeOut rates. Thus, using this tutorial you can make a SIP URI call to Skype (free), have PontiVoce answer the call, then initiate an outbound call using SkypeOut credits. If you have SkypeUnlimited (U.S. and Canada) then the call is 100% free. Or if you have a SIP desktop phone that allows SIP URL dialing, you can call your Skype buddy using your high-quality SIP desktop phone - perhaps even using a headset. I'm sure there are other cool applications as well. Give Your Skype Username A SIP URL

    http://www.voip-weblog.com/50226711/give_your_skype_username...

Skype has claimed their paying users don't want interoperability with other carriers. Well I think the rest of us aren't believing that for a second! In fact, some enterprising folks have figured out how to work around this. This is done through a service called Net2Max, which is a service that is a kind of "Unified Communications" platform, for lack of a better word. Their service offering is complex, but fortunately, someone wrote some step-by-step instructions for how to configure the service so that you get a SIP URL for your Skype ID-for free, even! So, Skype, about lack of interoperability with SIP providers... Via Skype Journal Image courtesy of freefoto.com See full article. Related Entries: Free Video Calling.
