The competition elicited 1,788 submissions, of which a panel of judges picked 50 winners who each won a $25,000 award. Reviewing the Top 50 mobile applications slideshow (pdf) gives us a good sense of the reach of mobile applications in the future and how the NGO sector has and can continue to benefit from these developments. juwo as a framework for other applications

    http://juwo-works.blogspot.com/2008/05/juwo-as-framework-for...
66 days ago in juwo · No authority yet

juwo is misunderstood and much maligned - probably because of its non-intuitive and poorly designed user interface. Yet, it is powerful in concept and potential uses. Recently, the prestigious and highly competitive Android Developer Contest concluded. Out of 1788 applications, 50 were picked as the winners (the list is here). juwo lost badly - in fact, it was likely disqualified at the outset because I never received my scores. However I was amazed to see at least 3 winning apps that juwo could pretty much, do all that they could. Breadcrumbz - navigation using pictures. This can be a juwo with each block, containing a photo or a voice note, and text. Cooking Capsules - cooking instructions with a video. Again, this can be a juwo with each block as the step of a recipe. Even better than the original application, you can skip to the important parts of the video and replay. TuneWiki - lyrics stream on the screen as music plays. Here is a juwo demo of American Idol. The lyrics could be - one verse for each block. These winning applications show that juwo can be used directly or serve as a framework for other applications to build custom interfaces for their specific needs, on top of. Think... multimedia lists. juwo can be used for serious applications to benefit society. For the developing world - quicker diagnosis of diseases, better utilization of health care resources - doctors, midwives in rural areas. This is both for the developing world, and rural under served areas in the USA. It is discouraging that few can see its potential.

Top 50 Google Android Applications Announced

    http://themobileexperience.blogspot.com/2008/05/top-50-googl...

Android Developers Blog announced the top 50 finalists for their $100M challenge. The 50 finalists in this round will take a cool $10K for their hard work and continue to compete for the ultimate prize of fame and money. Google has put together a presentation slide which showcases the top 46 out of 50 applications (4 decided to keep their project anonymous, must be brewing up some serious app). What is amazing about this project is the sense of excitement that awaits for the mobile community. All of these slick-looking, fully functional and FREE mobile applications will take the mobile experience to new height. I was already impressed by iPhone's 3rd party applications community but imagine the future where 3rd party apps are encourage in an open environment. Some of the interesting applications I saw from the deck includes: *TalkPlay (VOIP and Video Conferencing) *Piggyback (plan a trip and share a ride w/ people nearby, save gas, and be green!) *Weather Channel for Android (cool weather info w/ Google Maps integration) *SafetyNET (alarms loved ones if you are in danger) *FreeFamilyWatch (informs the predators in a given neighborhood) *Golfplay (everything a golfer needs, GPS, distance, scoring) *TuneWiki (Music player w/ lyrics in real time) *Wikitude (Interactive Travel guide using Google Maps) I will be waiting first in line to purchase an Android-powered phone for sure!the mobile experience http://theMobileExperience.blogspot.com

The file gives a brief description of the application and the and the developer information from Androidscan (a bar code reader application) to writing pad (a notebook application) with 48 other interesting applications. You can find a short list of winners here! Android Developers Blog: The Top 50 Applications The Android Blog has this nice post; Android Developers Blog: Android Developer Challenge Judges and Top 50 Details with a bunch of comments and one drew my attention. "I thought Google was looking for some new stuff? "An app that introduces an entirely new angle on social networking, for example, would likely do better here than one that simply ports an existing mobile application to Android without adding anything new. " (http://code.google.com/android/adc_judging.html)" Yes! So My Pearl of a application still has a chance, tag: Android, Android Developer Challenge, ADC Copyright © 2005-2008 SnapVoip, Published by snapvoip.blogspot.com.
