There is some chatter around and about the interwebs that seems to imply that the Loop Machine is featured in the upcoming issue of MAKE Magazine. You may recall that they are old friends of mine…it’s pretty exciting to make it to the print version, though! Apparently they talk a lot about the old version 1.1.1, which can be found on the download page for free, and remember there is a free demo of version 2.0. Speaking of the Wiimote and MAKE magazine, this is a pretty cool creative visual idea for the Wii, from the recent NYU ITP degree show. Thanks for the link, Deborah! (also, look out for a Loop Machine article in Develop, and a little bird told me that version 2.1 is just around the corner!)

    http://jp.makezine.com/blog/2008/05/itp_show_using_a_wheelch...

- Phillip Torrone [原文]

Using a wheelchair (and Wiimote) to create art…

Using a wheelchair (and Wiimote) to create art… Gespeichert unter: www.log.file — Schlagworte: a, art, create, using, wheelchair, wiimote — gabrielstagebuch @ 7:11 This year @ the ITP show the latest addition of devices used for projects included the Wiimote. Younghyun Chung’s digital wheelchair art project @ ITP… More about the project… Digital drawing tool for people whose physical challenges confine them to wheelchairs. http://digitalwheelart.com Everyone has the desire and the right to express themselves. People can draw pictures, play music, sing songs, move their bodies, write compositions or poems to express their feelings and emotions. However, not everyone can use these methods. There are many people who want to express themselves but cannot to do so because of physical disabilities. In this project, assistive technology including electronics, mechanics, and computer programming is applied to help those people to express themselves, and moreover, to provide an opportunity to be an artist. In this project, I successfully provided alternate methods of self-expression for people with physical disabilities. Because I designed the system while considering a variety of disabilities and locations so that a wider range of users can easily use it. Since it is based on computer technology, new functions can be added easily. Also, the replay features of this project allow for profound understandings about the creative process of art as opposed to just seeing the final products. In the end, I have transformed a wheelchair from a practical tool that assists disabled people and that at times is also a symbol of stigma into a tool for self-expression and art-making. ITP show wrap up…

Ok, I think we posted up a good chunk of the projects from NYU's ITP show - it's one of the few events where you can actually see some of the building blocks we cover @ MAKE taken to the extremes when tech-artists do projects, Tom Igoe (author of Making Things Talk) is an instructor @ ITP so there were a lot of new and interesting Arduino based projects and this year there were a handful of projects which use a Wii remote -- if you want a glimpse of what the art-meets-tech world will be doing years from now check out our photos, posts and videos. Here are all of them for your viewing pleasure... It's hard to say which one was the best, but I did like "Simon Stabs" quite a bit (pictured above) - so consider this a MAKE "best of show" Aram!
