I went for a walk along a cliff-top this week. It was a rather crumbly clifftop and could have been quite dangerous, although the local council had thoughtfully placed signs along it at intermittent intervals which warned, 'Cliff Edge' and had a picture of a stick figure man tumbling off the outline of a precipice, arms wheeling - the general impression was unfortunately rather comic. My excuse for this walk, a good three hour stride, was that various pivotal scenes in the new book take place on a cliff-top, although as the weather was so beautiful there were a few snide remarks from him
