When Twitter goes down unexpectedly, the Twitterverse has often gone nuts with confusion and anger. It was only last year when Twitter’s stability issues turned the fail whale into a running downtime joke. Even as recently as this January, Twitter couldn’t handle the keynote at MacWorld . And now, Twitter is magnitudes bigger, so what would happen if it went down in dramatic fashion? Well, if you believe Twitpocalypse , we’re going to see something catastrophic on June 13th. [...]

Sans Steve Jobs, Twitter Still Can’t Handle MacWorld
http://mashable.com/ 2009/ 01/ 06/ sans-steve-jobs-twi...
Last year Steve Jobs’ MacWorld keynote put Twitter to bed. This year, even in the absence of Jobs, Twitter still can’t seem to handle the pressure of the buzz worthy event. If you’re like us, you probably noticed that Twitter stopped updating around 10:30am PT. Instead of fail whales swimming across Twitter streams the world round, we’re noticing that things “appear” normal even though updates have come to a complete standstill. Twitter is obviously aware of the malfunction, and they’re hopefully doing everything they can to restore service.

Don't Blame the Geeks!
http://blog.twitter.com/2009/01/dont-blame-geeks.htmlPhoto by Thomas Hawk. This week Facebook announced on their company blog, "If Facebook were a country, it would be the eighth most populated in the world, just ahead of Japan, Russia and Nigeria." While Twitter is nowhere near that scale, we no longer see significant increases in overall traffic during events like Macworld or CES. [...]

http://kuusanmaki.com/blog/?p=201Yesterday’s Macworld 2009 Keynote brought no new iMacs or Mac minis, but a lot happened on social media/blogging side: MacRumorsLive was hacked resulting in Steve Jobs news and Twitter still couldn’t handle Macworld traffic. However, the Keynote brought some interesting items to the software side. I comment shortly on two of the announcements which are in my opinion the two most important ones. [...]
