GTA on SNL? Well, if a movie did a $500 million opening week, bet your ass there'd be a skit on it the very next show. Here Niko Bellic and Vlad Glebov appear on Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" to complain about the negative image the

Life After GTA IV: Does It Exist?
http://world1dash1.wordpress.com/2008/05/13/life-after-gta-i...It’s a little odd to try and write about games right now. Is there anything but GTA IV at the moment? The answer to that is largely “No” it seems, though the woefully lost among us might try to defy the rule by using Wii Fit or perhaps Mario Kart as proper alternatives - which they are NOT. No, GTA IV rules the land, and as soon as it seems to slip away into the ether of pop culture, referenced only as hip in-jokes, it will return to fever pitch when it’s mysterious and rumor-riddled DLC arrives at Summer’s end. Oh, and as a slight tangent, the DLC will not be San Andreas. But what about when the GTA joyride ends? Ponderous as it sounds, surely this train must reach the station at some point. For me, it’ll be once I see the credits roll and reach a reasonable percentage complete - like maybe 85%. Then, I can casually come back to it when Haze gets to be just too much - I’m kidding, Haze looks boring as all Hell and won’t see so much as a second spinning inside my PS3. Once GTA IV is done, and returned to the safety of its lockbox, I will have to figure out what the heck a world without a new GTA is like - akin to learning to walk all over again. First and foremost, I’m going to have to get back to Condemned 2, which faced the ultimate irony when it was brutally beaten down and left bleeding on the side of the road by Niko. I barely got a real feel for the game, aside from my impressions that I posted right here on World 1-1 (read it, it’s brilliant). And for a while there, pre-GTA time was largely spent with a resurrected love of Warhawk, which served not only as a great way to avoid a lot of people on Xbox Live, but also as a way to make sure my PS3 hadn’t reduced itself to being a fancy-looking toaster. In a similar fashion to Condemned 2, Mario Kart sits atop my entertainment center, where it has been since the day I bought it, untouched and unopened - another victim of Niko Bellic and the citizens of Liberty. It will certainly see more action once I find myself without a new game, and I’m climbing the walls in search of my next “fix”. In my own personal circle, I recently got myself my first home - and that means my disposable income has, well, dwindled. That’s important, because it limits my ability to constantly keep new games coming in the door. I am considering getting something in June to play, but I’m not sure what it will be exactly. I was pretty happy with the action found in the Xbox 360 demo of The Bourne Conspiracy, but I’m not convinced it’s worthy of a purchase. I’m also once again toying with serious hypocracy and possibly giving MGS4 a shot - though it has less to do with finding a new game and more to do with making my PS3 feel like it has a purpose outside of watching me collide a high-speed aircraft with perhaps a moutainside or the aircraft of a teammate, which I’m prone to do when I’m trying to desperately outrun missiles, pulling off moves that make me look like I’m having mid-air seizures. There’s also the increasing chance I might give Lego Indiana Jones a shot, especially as the new movie draws near and the Raiders theme grows louder and louder in my head. My wife wants Wii Fit, which I’d be happy to get for her - as soon as I figure a way to get that and then something that actually is fun to play. So, as I’ve said, the reality of the situation is that I’ve really only got the funds available for one new game in the next few months, and while I do have some options, the larger truth is that I probably won’t see another new game in my hot little hands (they’re actually large, tough, and worn, like a man’s should be) until Ghostbusters is released this fall. Enter my old games. For example: I eagerly downloaded Mass Effect’s “Bring Down The Sky” episode when it was released - only to learn that the otherwise kind and generous folks at Bioware actually love causing pain and suffering on some level, and that to access this new content, I’d have to replay the game. The 50 gamerpoints from the new achievement help, but I wasn’t amused when I found that out. Now, devoid of new games, I’ll finally have a reason to 1) make a new Sheppard and 2) make this one a total asshole. I’m also thinking I should really get back on the The Orange Box bandwagon. At one point, Half-Life 2 had me hooked - but then, for some reason, I just stopped playing it. I know I’m barely into HL2’s plot, and with two more episodes waiting, I’ve basically got an entire game sitting and waiting for me to pay it some attention, it’s neon-orange box remaining ever patient, but utterly displeased. Maybe it’ll also give me a chance to play some more Team Fortress 2, which is awesome, but apparently treated as the adorable but ignored adopted child of Valve. New achievements and goodies for the Medic? Sweet! But only on the PC. Go to hell, Valve! No, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. You know how I get when I drink, baby. What it all comes down it is looking ahead. It’s still early for me, I admit. I see myself riding the GTA IV train for at least the next two weeks or so, but I like to have a plan set aside for when the time to say goodbye comes. I’m sure you guys have been in such a situation, right?

"Mainstream critics must sum up an experience that's anywhere from six to 100 hours long-one that's fundamentally non-narrative, as we keep insisting--in the same amount of space or less that's devoted to 90-120-minute movie. The end result is a review where so much effort has been spent distilling the game into something that's understandable to non-gamers that no-one ever asks how truthful the distillation is."
