Privacy Policy

Version effective: Sept. 3, 2014

TechnoratiMedia (“we,” “our” or “us”) offers a digital advertising supply, yield optimization, and value acceleration platform to our publisher and advertiser customers (“Publishers” and “Advertisers” respectively, and “Clients” collectively). We partner with exchanges, demand side platforms, agency trading desks, and other programmatic companies to execute predictive algorithms as well as pricing and path analysis to pair the most valuable ad creative with the most viable ad impression instance. As part of our services, we may engage in activities that determine which ad to present based on various consumer traits and demographics (also known as “targeted advertising”), and otherwise attempt to increase the effectiveness of advertising using various tools and techniques based on the individual consumer’s web-browsing and search patterns (also known as “behavioral targeting” or “behavioral advertising”).

What This Policy Covers

The privacy of our Clients and of the consumers that see and respond to advertising that we serve (“Users”) is important to us so we have developed this policy to provide details as to what information we will collect in the course of performing services, and what choices Clients and Users have relating to our use of that information. This policy addresses both information that we collect as a function of providing services to Clients and displaying ads on Publisher sites, as well as information and privacy issues relating to the access and use of the TechnoratiMedia website (the “Site”) by both Clients and Users. This policy does not address the collection and use of information on any Advertiser websites except as explicitly stated herein, or on any of the websites owned or controlled by our parent company Technorati, Inc. that provide services other than the ones described here. Privacy on those websites is governed by the individual Advertiser privacy policy on the Advertiser website, and the Technorati, Inc. general privacy policy found at, respectively.

Information Collection & Use

Types of Information

Information can be either Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”) or non-Personally Identifiable Information (“non-PII”). PII is information that directly identifies you, such as your name, address, email address, and telephone number. Non-PII is information that is not specifically associated with your identity, such as context information, records of what you click on while web browsing (such as a hyperlink), click-stream data, demographic and behavioral data, the IP address from which a website or ad is viewed or accessed, the ads displayed on a Publisher site, which ads you click on and how often, and generally other aggregate or statistical information that is not PII.

Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

We do not collect PII as part of our services relating to ads served for Advertisers on Publisher sites. If you click on an ad served by us, you may be directed to the Advertiser’s site, where the Advertiser may request PII from you. If so, the collection and use of your PII is governed by the privacy policy for that Advertiser’s website, and not this policy. In accordance with the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) and the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Self-Regulatory Principles, we request that all of our Clients have privacy policies, provide Users with conspicuous access to those policies, and disclose what information they collect from Users on their sites. However, we are unable to monitor every transaction tracked by each of our many Clients and confirm that they have such policies and conform to a particular standard on privacy. You should look for a privacy policy statement on each Advertiser or Publisher site you link to through ads that we serve and review the policy to determine what PII and other information they collect and how they use it.

We do collect PII from Clients in order to provide them with our services, including, without limitation, billing, collection, and payment of fees owed to and from Clients. Such PII is used solely for the purpose of providing them with the services and is never disclosed or sold to a third party for other purposes.

We use vendors and service agencies to assist us in operating the Site and providing our services. We will need to share your PII (and data generated by cookies and beacons) with these vendors and service agencies. The vendors and service agencies do not receive any right to use your PII beyond what is necessary to perform its obligations to provide the services. Except as provided in this policy, we will not disclose PII to third parties.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information (non-PII)

We use the non-PII collected from Publisher sites and through ads to provide our services to you and our Clients. This includes targeting ads and using behavioral advertising techniques to help select which ads you see so that you are more likely to see ads that are useful to you. We may add non-PII from other sources (e.g., other ad networks, information provided by Clients) to the non-PII that we collect, again for the above purposes. We will not share targeting and behavioral information with our Clients, except in statistical or aggregate form. This type of information is collected and tracked automatically as a function of your browser. If you do not want us to collect targeting or behavioral information you need to consult the documentation for your browser to determine how to turn off those functions. You should also be aware that third party sites and social media often collect and disseminate such information and that you need to confirm with each such site or social media service how to turn off that function.

We also use non-PII to track and analyze how our services and the Site is accessed. This type of non-PII is collected only in statistical form and used only in an aggregate manner; you are never personally identified or tied to such information. This aggregate data may be used by us and third party vendors to assist in the operation of our Site and our services and provided to Clients and other third parties to enable them to better understand the operation of our business, again only in aggregate form that will not contain any PII.

Collection Technology and Opt-out

We collect information by many means, but all of them are based in some way on technology associated with the ads served on Publisher sites. In particular, we use cookies, pixels, web beacons and other types of collection technology.

A cookie is a small text file stored on your computer to track session data, identify that your computer has visited a Publisher site or seen an ad before, and perform other useful functions. A cookie takes up only a small amount of space in a folder on your hard drive, and is not an applet or other type of program. A session cookie expires when you exit your browser. A persistent cookie stays on your computer until it is deleted. You can set your browser to reject all cookies, ask your permission before accepting a cookie, or to remove all cookies. Without the cookies, however, you may not be able to experience all of the features of the site or ad.

Pixels and web beacons are a line of code embedded in a website, ad or used by an ad server to track navigation and other activity on a particular webpage (e.g., which ads are clicked).

Third parties such as our Clients may use cookies or other information collection technology on their sites. We have no access or control over these uses or technology. This policy does not cover the use of cookies or other technology or collection of information by any third parties.

Updating, Correcting and Deleting Information.

Upon request we will allow Users and Clients to review, correct and request the deletion of any of the PII that was entered on our Site or through our services. Remember that we have no control over PII entered on an Advertiser or Publisher site; you need to review the relevant site privacy policy and follow its procedures to review such information. To correct or delete any of your information please contact us by e-mailing our customer support at <<URL>>. We will respond to the request within 30 days. Alternatively, you may send a letter with your requested changes, corrections or deletions to the following address:

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect. We review these safeguards regularly and take commercially reasonable steps to ensure they meet current industry standards. You should be aware, however, that no system has perfect security and TechnoratiMedia cannot and does not assume responsibility for the security of information beyond such industry standards and its legal obligations.

Collection of Information from Children

Our services, and the ads we deliver, are not intended for children under fourteen (14) years of age. We do not knowingly develop services or direct ads at children.

Information Disclosure for Legal and Other Exceptional Reasons

We may also disclose your PII: (a) if we are required to do so by law, regulation or other government authority or otherwise in cooperation with an investigation of a governmental authority, (b) to enforce the Terms of Use on our Site or (c) to protect our rights and the safety of users of our Site and our services. In addition, we may transfer your personally identifiable information to a successor entity upon a merger, consolidation or other corporate reorganization in which we are a party or to a purchaser of all or substantially all of our assets or business.

Server Location and Transfer of Information

PII collected by us is stored and processed in the United States where we (or our service providers) currently maintain computer systems. Your personal data will be processed in the United States where data protection and privacy regulations may not offer the same level of protection as in other parts of the world, such as the European Union. Your use of the Site means that you agree to this Privacy Policy and specifically that you consent to the transfer of your information (whether it is PII, or some other type of information under the laws local to your country of origin) to the United States, notwithstanding any local laws to the contrary, as well as to the processing of that information as described in this Privacy Policy. We assume no responsibility for where your information is collected, processed and stored by our Clients. If you have concerns about how an Advertiser or Publisher treats your information in conjunction with local laws you need to consult the relevant privacy policy or address your inquiry to that Advertiser or Publisher.

Changes to This Policy

This policy is a living document that will change due to internal and external requirements. We may modify this document as we add new features and new services. Changes in information collection practices and technology may also suggest changes in the policy. Changes in the law may also require us to modify our information collection and use practices, which modifications will be reflected in this policy. Accordingly, TechnoratiMedia reserves the right to modify this policy at any time. Although we will attempt to make you aware of material changes through posts on the website and other appropriate places, we are not obliged to do so. You should check the date (shown above) on the version of this policy posted on the website occasionally to remain current.
