Alien abduction is one of the more bizarre phenomena associated with the thousands of UFO sightings reported each year. In these cases, witnesses report encounters with strange beings that include being taken up into space ships and undergoing bizarre medical experiments, often involving reproductive and sexual functions. These are conducted by strange beings with large, dark, almond-shaped eyes, commonly called the "Greys".
Many of these same witnesses also report a phenomenon known as "missing time" and are only able to fully recall their experiences after undergoing regression hypnosis, a controversial technique which allows the abductees to retrieve blocked memories of the abduction event. Two of the better-known abduction researchers using this technique are Yvonne Smith and Budd Hopkins.
The first, and probably still most famous alien abduction is the 1961 case involving bi-racial couple Betty and Barney Hill. Other famous abductees include Travis Walton, whose story was made into the Hollywood motion picture Fire In The Sky, and author Whitley Streiber, who turned his abduction experience into the Communion series of books. Streiber's books are also where the classic Grey alien image was first popularized.
