Botox TM is a trade name for Botulinum toxin A. Botulinum toxin was isolated from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum long after lethal cultures had been fed to Chinese prisoners in the 1930's. Some find it hard to believe that a poison deadly enough to be considered a prime biological weapon (Agent X), is now in part a lead cosmetic product a half century later.
Botulinum toxins paralyze muscles and when injected into muscles in tiny doses instead of stopping breathing they decrease wrinkles. The effect is temporary. Clostridium botulinum produces seven types of neurotoxins, denoted by the letters A through G. The first two of these have been cloned, trademarked and are in clinical use in the U.S. - Botox TM (toxin A) and Myobloc TM (Toxin B.)
Celebrity, cosmetic, and beauty blogs may mention Botox TM due to the widespread use of Botulinum toxin injections which constitute the most common minor procedures in cosmetic surgery. As the unusual tends to be featured on the blogs, Sharon Stone's apparent desire to treat her child's foot odor with Botox was a hit.
