An informal event prior to the wedding is to “shower” the prospective bride with gifts generally of a themed nature. This is commonly known as a bridal shower. Historically, the events are afternoon ceremonies attended predominately by female relatives and friends with a light luncheon and trivia games related to how well the guests know the bride to be. Gifts can be centered on household essentials; towels, sheets or cookware for instance or lingerie and more personal gifts. The tone and ambiance of the event is generally more casual than the formality of the ceremony and reception and the gifts are usually more practical than extravagant.
