Chastity has historically meant a sex life voluntarily limited by one's religion — most notably in the practice, by some, of premarital abstinence (a feature in all three major forms of monotheism). Online discussions are far more diverse than the dictionary implies, however. Put "chastity" into Google, and you're just as likely to find discussions of manliness and the famous Franklin virtues as you are Sonny and Cher's kid, bondage devices and purity rings.
Predictably, though, more substantive discussions of the term — such as whether "anti-chastity" is bigotry and whether chastity includes or excludes such practices as oral sex and masturbation — are more common among those for whom chastity is more a test of faith than a source of kink. Mormons, Catholics, and Muslims seem equally devoted to chastity.
