In common use a coffee maker is a machine that uses a specific process to brew ground coffee beans into the drinkable coffee beverage as it is served.
There are many types of coffee makers in use today, both commercially and for home use. They range from the high technology steaming machines used for espresso and cappuccino to simple home drip machines for regular coffee.
Coffee machines all start with ground coffee for their end result. A drip maker will heat water to drip over the coffee separated from the end container by a filter. A percolator will pump the coffee over and over through a filter basket until it is the proper strength.
A French Press is used to boil coffee and grounds together and then press the grounds under a filter, leaving only the coffee solution. Espresso and cappuccino makers quickly force steam through coffee for a quick typically concentrated strong result, and also have a separate steam nozzle for steaming milk the correct way for various espresso based coffees.
