British rock band Coldplay broke out on to the world stage in 2000 with their hit single "Yellow", from their debut album Parachutes. The band is fronted by lead singer Chris Martin, who would marry American actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Rounding out the quartet are Jon Buckland (guitar), Guy Berryman (bass), and Will Champion (drums).
If Parachutes put the band on the map, 2002's A Rush Of Blood To The Head made Coldplay full-fledged international stars. The album won Grammy Awards and sold more than 4 million copies in the United States. "Clocks," "The Scientist," and "In My Place" all got considerable airplay on worldwide radio.
The band followed A Rush Of Blood with X&Y three years later in 2005. The song produced the worldwide hit "Fix You." That song would be featured in advertisements to Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong.
In 2008, the band released Viva La Vida. It was produced by Brian Eno, who is famous for his work with David Bowie in the 1970s and U2 in the 1980s and '90s.
