A CTO, or chief technology officer, makes critical decisions about the use of technology to advance a company's business mission. The responsibilities of a CTO vary greatly among companies and may include governance of huge organizations in large enterprises or personally creating and implementing technology solutions in a small startup. The role of a CTO also varies, with CTOs in technology companies often having great prominence and many companies outside of the technology sector relegating a CTO role to a chief operating officer or other executive. In the technology sector, many CTOs maintain a blog to write about technical issues that interest them. Fewer CTOs find time to blog about the critical decisions that impact the success of their organizations.
