Delta Airlines was founded in 1924, but under the name of Huff Daland Dusters. It wasn't until 1929 that the word "Delta" entered the picture. Since then, Delta Airlines, based in Atlanta, Georgia, has become one of the world's biggest airlines, offering over 1,500 flights to over 500 destinations in more than 100 countries. Delta's hubs are in Atlanta, Cincinnati, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), and Salt Lake City.
Delta's history has been relatively free of controversy, although it certainly has had recent bumps along the way to success. Since 9/11, Delta has had its share of financial troubles, including bankruptcy in 2005 (and subsequent reorganization out of bankruptcy in 2007, a failed takeover of US Airways in 2007, and skyrocketing jet fuel prices in 2007-2008.
Delta Airlines also made headlines in early 2008 when their new safety video hit YouTube before its official release. The video features an attractive flight attendant known only as "Deltalina" giving updated instructions to those onboard Delta flights.
