DirecTV is arguably the largest direct broadcast satellite company in the world. Established in 1990 by Liberty Media and operating out of El Segundo, California, DirecTV has over 15 million customers as of late 2005, along with five million customers using its Latin American service as of early 2008.
DirecTV offers its users a plethora of television services, including over 100 High Definition channels, exclusive sports packages, including NCAA Basketball's Mega March Madness and the NFL's Sunday Ticket, and a comprehensive series of message forumswhere fellow subscribers can get help from each other and satellite TV experts.
The satellite system's history hasn't been completely free of controversy. In December 2005, DirecTV had to pay $5.3 million for placing calls to potential customers that were part of the United States' "Do Not Call" registry.
