Eating is the main method by which we obtain nutrition to both nourish and maintain the overall health of the body. Those who also eat to take pleasure in the food itself are variously refered to as gourmets, sensualists, epicures, and foodies (or more negatively, gluttons).
Food blogs are good ways to get new ideas about interesting and healthy meals to cook. Some delicious examples of such blogs are What We're Eating, Gluten-Free Girl, Urban Vegan, and Nourish Me.
To lose weight or to manage a health condition like diabetes, many people follow a diet, a practice that demands organization and willpower. Sometimes people choose to control the amount and type of food they eat for religious reasons (i.e. Lent) or to make a political statement (i.e. a hunger strike). Anorexia and bulemia are two examples of psychological disorders whose symptoms include an unhealthy relationship with food. Competitive eating is a kind of contest that involves eating large amounts of food (usually a specific food like pasta or hotdogs), often with a set time limit.
