Email is electronic mail which is also spelled with a hyphen in as e-mail. Email started before the Internet and can be traced back to 1965 when it was used to communicate between people sharing main-frame computers. By 1966, users of different computers were able to communicate with each other. By 1982, Internet architects had come up with a single standard known as Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.
Today, servers store and forward email and users connect to an email infrastructure to read and send messages. This is done by personal computers and even smart phones, such as the Blackberry and iPhone.
Email has become a mainstay of business and personal communications and is a crucial tool for bloggers. Using email a person can communicate quickly and the receiver gets the communication in a matter of seconds. Email can also be used to send all kinds of files and can even contain links, which take a person to a specified address on the Internet.
Spam email has come about as a result of more people using email. Most spam is designed to sell (market) something, whether it is for legitimate purposes or not. Sometimes spam email contains links and or attachments, which when clicked on or downloaded add adware, spyware, malware and crimeware on a user's machine without their consent.
