Firefox is the name more widely used to reference the free and open source web browser descended from the Mozilla Firefox Application Suite, and is managed by the Mozilla Corporation,a public benefit, non-profit organization. As of September 2008, it was the second most popular and widely used web browser worldwide, after Internet Explorer.
The browser uses 100% Organic Software developed created by an international movement of thousands. The Gecko layout engine includes features such as tabbed browsing, spell check, incremental find, live bookmarking, and an integrated search system that allows the user to specify their desired search engine for internet surfing. Firefox can be customized to suit each individual by offering more than 5000 third-party add-ons so that every browser can be uniquely fitted to an individual's interest or needs.
September 26, 2008 marked the stable release of Firefox version 3.0.3. Future upgrades are planned in Version 3.1 and Version 4.0. Firefox is dedicated to providing the highest security for web browsers, and offers a "bug bounty" to researchers who discover severe security holes. It is considered by many to be the safest web browser to date and is often cited as the reason most users switch from Internet Explorer.
