Flickr is a photo hosting Web site which grew from developments Ludicorp made for use in a Massively Mulitplayer Online Role-Playing Game called Game Neverending. The game was canceled, but the photo hosting service evolved to become a major pillar of Web 2.0, the Internet movement supporting collaboration and creativity.
Flickr launched in February 2004, and since then it has grown to host more than 3 billion photos. In March of 2005, Yahoo! bought out Flicker and Ludicorp and moved their headquarters from their original home in Vancouver to California. Since then, Flickr has started supporting a limited video upload function.
In addition to providing users with the ability to share their photographs with friends, family, and the Internet at large, bloggers often use Flickr as a place to host images that enhance their blog pages.
