The term grassroots, among activists and community organizers, refers to an independent nationally unaffiliated organization, governed by and serving the needs of the people. A grassroots movement is an upstart movement usually devoid of corporate investors and sponsors.
Grassroots organization and movements utilize volunteers to distribute the main goals and objectives of the movement and often have offices dispersed throughout surrounding neighborhoods.
To be grassroots is to have an ideology or political stance, which has newly developed in response to the environmental needs of a local population. For this reason, grassroots organizations generate money from local business leaders and community organizers.
