Actress, author, comedian, model Jenny McCarthy recently added a new role to her list of accomplishments, that of an activist.
Jenny first gained public notice posing for Playboy Magazine in 1993. A few years later, she turned to television, hosting a show, Singled Out, on MTV. That led to a sketch comedy show on the same channel, The Jenny McCarthy Show. In 1997 broadcast TV called (Jenny) and she also published her autobiography Jen-X. It was a quick hop from there into feature films like BASEketball and Scream 3. She continued to do guest spots on television shows, while 2005 saw her write, produce, and star in the movie Dirty Love.
McCarthy had a child in 2002, Evan, with her then husband John Mallory Asher. The couple divorced in 2005 shortly after her son was diagnosed with autism. Pregnancy and motherhood had given her the inspiration to author several more books.
She went public regarding Evan's autism in 2007. Her controversial stance that his disability was caused by childhood vaccines and that it could be cured with chelation therapy saw her again taking pen to paper as well as making the talk show circuit. Still an activist for the cause, Jenny McCarthy participates in fundraisers, online chats and other activities to help spread the word.
