Kaspersky is short for Kaspersky Lab, a popular antivirus software that aims to protect its users from e-mail, files, and malware which seem harmless but are actually harmful and could destroy their computers in a matter of a click.
Kaspersky Lab was founded in 1997 in Moscow, Russia by Eugene Kaspersky. Since then, Kaspersky Lab claims "more than 250 million users worldwide are protected by our technologies...every week, we add more than 100,000 new users" on their web site.
Competitors in the antivirus software space for Kaspersky Lab include AVG, McAfee, Norton, and Symantec. All offer the same basic services, whether they be free or paid software bundles, but each utilizes different methodologies to prevent users from harming their computer systems.
