A kitchen is a room used for cooking, food preparation, (and in the case of larger kitchens) dining. In homes and apartments which are smaller and/or have less rooms, the kitchen may also be used additionally as a family room or laundry room. In addition to homes and restaurants, kitchens are found in many businesses so their employees can purchase or heat their lunches. A test kitchen is a place where recipes are tested. They are often used by companies that manufacture food products, culinary magazines, and cookbook publishers.
Many people wish they had a larger kitchen, but a skilled cook can prepare great meals even in a small one, as the New York Times' Food Columnist Mark Bittman can attest. Another example of this is The White House Kitchen , which is only twice the size of the average American kitchen, yet prepares meals for hundreds.
Some good blogs about kitchens and the work done in them are The Kitchen Designer, Post Punk Kitchen, and Closet Cooking.
