A movie can be defined as a series of pictures displayed on a screen fast enough to create the illusion of motion (roughly 30 frames per second). A movie or film typically tells a story, whether fictional or non-fictional, but that's not necessarily a requirement. A movie may simply document an event, capturing images of people or things for posterity.
The term "movie" was coined sometime between 1908 and 1912 as a shortened form of the term "moving picture."
An entire movie industry has formed around the creation and promotion of films to the public in a variety of forms, including movie theaters and home video.
