MySpace is a social networking tool. Creating a profile allows users to manage their own web page. The page can be updated easily from any web browser, without specialized software for editing or loading pages to the Internet. Users can browse profiles to meet others online and create links to their friends' sites. Users share information with each other using bulletins short blasts that are sent to all the user's friends) and blogs.
Eash user who creates a profile finds they have one "starter friend", Tom. Tom's profile is based on a profile created by Tom Anderson, one of the site founders. The site (and Tom's MySpace profile) were purchased by the News Corporation in 2005.
The ease of communication on MySpace allows groups, such as not-for-profit organizations or magazines, to market their offerings and build support. The only cost is the time spent to maintain the page and control your public image. MySpace music allows musicians to create profiles expressly tailored for publishing songs and touring schedules directly to fans.
