Nissan is one of the ‘big three’ Asian car manufacturers along with Toyota and Honda. Founder in 1914 under its original name of DAT Motor Co, the name comes from the first letter of the ‘family names’ of the 3 founders of the company. The first vehicles to be made by Nissan were mostly military trucks but these demands became so sparse that the company had to go through a merger and various corporate changes before emerging as Nissan Motor Company in 1934. It grew quickly and by the second world war was the fourth largest combine in Japan, and would eventually include more than 74 firms.
