Michel de Nostredame - better known as Nostradamus - was a french seer living in France in the 1500s who has, through a combination of myth and coincidence, or legend and accuracy (depending on your point of view), come to be known through the centuries as one of history's greatest prophets. His accurate predictions are said to have included everything from the rise of Hitler, to both World Wars, to more recently the events of 9/11. Because of this, Nostradamus has become a very popular subject in the blogosphere.
Nostradamus published his predictions in a series of quatrains, which are four or five line short verses which read more like cryptic poems.
In one of his more famous quatrains - said to be about 9/11 - for example, he seems to predict the event with lines that reference the sky burning at forty five degrees in the "new city." In another, he refers to a figure called "Hister", which many have interpreted as meaning Adolf Hitler.
Many of those who follow Nostradamus seem most interested in his predictions and prophecies related to our time.
