A pet refers to an animal, bird or reptile kept domestically for companionship or enjoyment. The world is love with their pets; cats, dogs, birds and fish along with a host of exotic feathered, finned and furry friends.
Popular pets include playful breeds of dogs and cats. There is evidence to suggest that owning a pet improves health and reduces stress. Over 120,000 blogs are now devoted to pets in one form or another; dog blogs that discuss the benefits and disadvantages of one breed over another; veterinarian blogs that inform owners of new procedures, medications and surgical techniques and pet boutique blogs regaling the latest poodle sweater fashions.
More than 55% of Canadian households have a cat or dog; while the US currently has a pet in 1/3 of all the households and half the households in England have a pet. With pet ownership comes responsibility and costs. The average cost for surgical care is now over $500 for a dog and over $300 for a cat with $8.6 billion spent in the US alone for veterinary care. Expenses can be dramatically reduced with preventative information and comparative shopping information; which the internet and pet related blogs can provide.
