A pool can refer to a body of water, a swimming pool or cue sports commonly known as billiards or pool. Pool or pocket billiards is a game played on a felted slate table with side and end pockets where the goal is to knock the striped or solid balls into the pockets in a given sequence. There are many different pool games including eight-ball, nine-ball, cutthroat or killer. The table is usually set with either 9 or 15 balls, and the players use long cues or pool sticks to hit the balls by moving a white or cue ball toward the other balls. Popular in bars and bowling or recreational centers; pool tables are often coin operated. Tournaments for professional pool players can include large cash prizes and winnings.
