A restaurant is a place licensed to serve and sell food to the public. The Eat Local Movement seeks to encourage restaurant patrons to dine at regional restaurants rather than national restaurant chains that they feel have a homogenizing effect on cuisine in general. Many restaurants have gone smoke-free, either voluntarily or due to the passage of local laws, polarizing restaurant patrons on both sides of the issue.
Some popular styles of restaurants include diners, bistros, coffee shops, cafeterias, buffets, donut shops, BBQ shacks, grills, oyster bars, theme restaurants, and tea rooms.
There are many blogs to help you find good places to eat. Some blogs about restaurants are Eater and Uptake Restaurants Blog. Reading restaurant reviews can also be a great way to discover new restaurants to try.
