Best known as the founder and principal songwriter for British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson is also a talented vocalist, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist whose output has been prolific to say the least. With Porcupine Tree alone, Wilson has recorded dozens of albums over the last two decades, including a number of multiple album sets. These projects range from the mind-expanding, Pink Floyd-ian space-rock of earlier works like The Sky Moves Sideways (the title track of which alone clocks in at 35 minutes), to the harder rock of more recent albums like 2007's Fear Of A Blank Planet, a record which combines prog-rock precision comparable to bands like Rush, with equal amounts of metallic bludgeon.
In addition to Porcupine Tree, Wilson fronts a number of side-projects. These include the mainly acoustic pop duo Blackfield (with Israeli musician Aviv Geffen), the avant synth-pop group No-Man, and the ambient Bass Communion recordings. Wilson released his first solo album, Insurgentes, in early 2009.
